When Charles Babbage thought of this mean machine back in the 1800, he never thought it could have this huge effect on mankind. It has evolved into a super machine that people can not live without. Kids ages 2 to 82 years old adults take advantage of this invention.

The evolution of this machine had greatly affected the people worldwide. When internet was introduced, it helped people from all parts of the world in all aspects of life.

But thanks to another inventor who conceptualize a portable computer, which we know call the laptop. Portability is the number one advantage that we can get from this device. Technology again evolved in this device and manufacturers like IBM, Sony, Hewlett and Packard and Epson are making so much profit out of it.

With the increase in demand of this device, then came a brand that even students with diner jobs can afford, Acer. Laptops are used in schools as replacement to the ordinary textbooks. How a Notebook Serves a Computer User?

Sunday, April 29th, 2012

There is not much difference when you buy a second-hand computer and a used laptop. Buying a refurbished laptop can give you some bright features and portability which are not possible through a personal computer. But if you are only looking for the handiness and portability and not very cautious about the price difference, then a good option would be to buy a second-hand notebook as it offers you more ease of use as compared to a CPU or a laptop. Read through these facts to know more about the benefits of notebook computers. Hopefully after reading this article you will find yourself to be in a more convincing stage to buy it.

What is a notebook?

A notebook is a mini or a microcomputer. It is a small gadget that has all the functions a mini or a micro computer can have. The concept behind a notebook is same as calculators. A calculator is simple electronic book which calculates and works on the logic of numbers where as a notebook is an electronic diary which calculates both the alphabetic and arithmetic characters. A notebook is a machine which is designed to calculate all the logics and convert them from machine language to human language form. It is an ideal device where is an issue of handiness or portability.

The functioning is all the same as like a normal desktop computer. There is a little difference which is the difference of size and memory. A latest addition notebook is built-in with its windows and it can carry a hard drive for about 40 GB. There are sometimes limitations in the space because the hard drive memory is in the same precise formatting.

Notebooks do not have much variation in the hard drive or memory as it is precise in its built-in characteristics. People mostly prefer because it has all the features which a microcomputer can have. Another name given to these microcomputers are “Tablet computers” and “Ultra portables”.

Here are some of the benefits which we can have on buying a notebook:

Internal and external attributes:

External attributes:

Buying a notebook means buying extra handiness and extra portability. It is a lightweight micro-processor which asserts itself in a more elegant and decorative appearance. That is why the notebooks are very common in the ladies because they find it to be the best gadget for their normal life computer use.

New Sandy Bridge Laptops – Does it Mean I Have to Upgrade Again?

Sunday, April 1st, 2012

Laptop and computer technology changes at such a blistering pace, there is something new almost daily. Just when computer users were getting their heads around the confusing i3, i5 and i7 processors – Intel comes out with its new 2nd generation Core processors which have been codenamed Sandy Bridge. These processors offer much greater performance with hyper threading, multi cores, overclocking and much more robust integrated graphics. Computers and laptops with these new Sandy Bridge processors are currently hitting the marketplace.

There are, as of January 2011, around 29 variants or versions of these processors. So you have 14 desktop and 15 mobile models to choose from when buying that new PC or laptop. For the mobile market at the low end you have the i5-2537M which can have 2/4 cores at 1.4GHz and with turbo boost to 2.3GHz. At the high end we have i7-2920XM with 4 to 8 cores at 2.5GHz and turbo boost to 3.5GHz. For the desktop market we have a little more higher specs, for example the Intel Core i7 2600K at 3.4GHz with turbo boost to 3.8GHz.

What’s so special about Sandy Bridge?

As with the 1st Generation Core Processors, the emphasis is again on Hyper Threading for all your multi-tasking and on Turbo Boost to give you peak performance when you need it. You can have 4-way or even 8-way processing with Hyper Threading to do several tasks at the same time. You also have a larger cache size which will give you better responsiveness when multi-tasking on your computer or laptop.

Graphics seems to have taken a big improvement (well within reason) with these new chipsets, Intel has introduced its own built-in HD Graphics 3000 which should be good enough for causal gaming, but for high-demanding games you will probably still need discrete graphics especially for gaming at the highest resolutions or settings. However, this is still a step forward for Intel regarding graphics, especially when it comes to HD and 3D images. Plus, Quick Synch Video is a feature which will make video editing and sharing a breeze.

Keep in mind, what makes these new Sandy Bridge processors very popular is overclocking, especially with the high end ones. Gamers who demand the highest specs will no doubt be very pleased since the higher end processors will come unlocked. For those who want the best performance possible, an upgrade to Sandy Bridge will be a no-brainer. However, for the causal PC or laptop user, their current CPUs will probably do. Besides how much processing power do you need to send an email, check your Facebook page or watch the latest viral YouTube video?

In other words, if you’re not into computer gaming or need a high performance computer for video editing or processing, you really don’t need to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading. If your current PC or laptop can do all the chores you want it to do without freezing up or slowing down, then you obviously don’t need a new one. Save your money and spend it on something else.

Again, it all comes back to performance and how much you have to pay for that performance. Many reviewers are seeing this better performance, including one very well known tech expert, who tested these Sandy Bridge processors and stated that for the same money one would have spent last year you can get 10-50% more performance from your applications and games.

For this reason alone, many computer users will be taking a second look at Sandy Bridge to see if they do indeed need this increase in performance. Many consumers wait until new platforms and/or operating systems are introduced before they upgrade… if you’re still using Windows 98 on a Pentium 2 computer, it’s probably time for an upgrade.

Great Bargains to Be Had in Used Laptops

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

Everyone and his mother seems to have a computer these days, and those who do not have one are considered to be behind the times for sure. However, because we rely so heavily on these high-tech gadgets, we have to find a way to carry them along with us. Desk oriented models are all well and good when we are in the office, but when we are on the road, something portable had to be found. Enter then the used laptop and refurbished laptop computers which allows us to carry the gadget with us, but at a reduced price from the new models.

These great machines are often taken back to shops merely because they are not required anymore, or the owner just could not get along with them. Those of us who are very fast typists often complain that the keyboard is not big enough and so we cannot use them to our advantage. Indeed, most of these portable models have keyboards which are about three-quarters of the normal size so a typist would surely feel a little restricted.

Another reason for taking them in to the shop is as part exchange on newer models which the buyer may want to upgrade to. Once someone gets this high-tech bug they often want to have the latest gadgets as and when they hit the market. This can be seen when queues form around buildings when the latest iPhone or such comes onto the market. It is not that they get so much more from these things; it is because they just have to have the latest model of whatever it is.

For the bargain shopper, this is great value of course since most of these machines are in perfect condition anyway. The shop will check them out with diagnostic routines to make sure that everything is doing what it should, but most of them may just have a mark or two on the casing. Everything else should be working perfectly well and this is a great opportunity to buy something at a much reduced price.

Of course, these are also handy to buy for the kids too since each will probably have to have one for school at one time or another. These days, kids are given homework which will include them having to search the internet for information to finish off homework etc. It also means that they do not have to fight over the desktop model when they want to finish an essay or report too. At these prices, it could be that each could have his own anyway and then there is no excuse for late homework etc.

Finally, spare a thought for the underprivileged when disposing of old machines that have no intrinsic value anymore. Inner city schools or tech colleges with little funding to spare could learn how to rebuild these machines. Or kids living in Africa could get the chance to have hands on experience of something that they otherwise would not be able to see, ever!

Buy Laptop UK – “How to Buy” Guide

Monday, March 26th, 2012

Buy Laptop UK? You might be in a heap of trouble. Buying a laptop is like buying a car or house. You need to do your homework, or it can quickly turn into a frustrating experience. If you don’t believe me, try logging to an online shop and start searching for laptop. You’ll be bombarded with so many choices that you’ll flabbergasted. You’ll feel lost and start to scratch your head on where to start. Thankfully this article addresses that.

Basically, I have two methods of buying a laptop. You can do it the short way and the long way. Neither one is better; it just depends on how much time and resource you want to put in. Compare it to buying a suite, the easy way would be to visit a store and buy one. Long way – go to tailor, do all the stuffs to get a tailor-made suite.

I) Long way – This way is preferable for people who have the time and resource to put in when finding a laptop that fits them.

Fist thing to do is ask questions, a lot of questions to be exact. You need answers for questions such as:

“Do I use it for gaming?”
“Do I watch for watching lots HD videos?”
“Do I use it for work and what kind of demands does it put on my laptop?”
“Do I travel a lot with it?”

The more questions you can ask, the more accurate you can arrive on that perfect balance between performance and cost. Buying a high-end laptop with hefty cost may not be the best for you. It’s like buying a racing car that you only drive with a speed limit of 50 km/ph.

Then you can move to the nitty gritty components. You can check for the following components and find the one that is right for you.

Upgrading Capability
Processor
Graphics Card
Memory (Ram)
Storage (Hard Disk)

By no means you are limited to those components, you can certainly add some features that you might want, but you do not really need. For example would be like a good webcam or a wireless mouse.

After going through that questions and checklist, you will have a better picture of what kind of laptop you need.

II) Short Way – If you don’t want to put in time and resource on finding a good laptop for you, then you can do my “Short Way”.

Just as the name implies this way is fast and easy, perfect for people who are looking for a quick buy without getting a complete dud.

You can do that short way by simply visiting websites that has a list of best selling laptops. They usually have a list based on best selling and/or top rated. This is close to a foolproof fast way, since laptops don’t get to be top rated or best selling if they have poor quality, service and pricing.

Another thing you can do is read the costumer’s review, some sites provide them on the actually product description page. This would be a good fast way to get info on what are the pros and cons of the products you have in mind.

Guidelines For Buying the Best Laptop

Monday, March 26th, 2012

If you decide that you need a brand new laptop and you’re overwhelmed by the plethora of laptop products existing in the stores, these 7 suggestions will simplify the complete process of selection and ultimately you will possess the top notebook that will comply with your entire requirements.

There are various reasons why someone would want a laptop, and among them the need for portability. In a world where time is running increasingly faster, it is important to accomplish the tasks that we typically perform in front of a desktop computer, at any time of day and any place we might find ourselves. That is why laptops have become crucial devices in our everyday existence. But because we all have various requirements, the notebook manufacturers struggle to get their position in the market by producing diverse versions to satisfy specific user requirements. Thus, we now have on the market laptops designed for gamers, scholars, videographers, business travelers and even to exchange desktop computers moreover a lot of laptop brands to pick from.

Technology is evolving at a fast tempo and customer demands are rising, and that is why it isn’t a surprise that choosing a very good notebook from the infinite variety of models which have appeared over night is often an overwhelming procedure for some. To help you take a good choice, I’ll highlight underneath a number of hints you should remember, in the event that you really want to purchase a new laptop.

1. Product cost. Keep an eye on your spending budget! For some, worth is absolutely not a problem, and if that is your case you may skip to the next position, but for most folks, cost is really a influential factor particularly in these period of crisis. A higher value of the product will not always promise the very best performance, consequently it is important to establish a budget that we are prepared to spend it for purchasing a fresh notebook from the start. Establishing the budget will shrink the search area which makes it less difficult for us to obtain the best laptop for our requirements.

2. Notebook portability. Everyone knows that the main advantage of a notebook versus a desktop computer is portability. When the laptop has a bigger size it is going to be difficult to carry with us anywhere we require. Therefore it is essential to remember the dimensions of the notebook. Mid-size laptops, 15 inch, are in general the most wanted because they can be used for most activities offering maximum comfort and can be quite easily transported in general. Larger laptops, 17 inch, are generally intended to replace desktop computers since they’re harder and uncomfortable to maneuver them from one place to another. Small laptops, 11-13 inch, ultraportables are intended for clients who will always be in a rush and continually on the road, for instance students and business travelers.

3. Laptop configuration. After we lessened the search area only to machines that fit our budget and also the perfect dimension fitted to actions carried out routinely by us it is time to take a look at one of the most important factors, that is the notebook configuration. A better CPU and a larger amount of RAM will guarantee us that we can execute multiple tasks simultaneously, and will provide faster loading and running for applications and programs used. The video card has an important role if you intend to use the laptop for playing games or 3D editing applications. Saving files is completed on hard disk, therefore a greater space will give us a better volume of data that we are able to save. We will need an optical drive to read CDs and DVDs. A wireless network card will allow us to connect to the Internet from any public place wherever there’s an wireless network acces point, and also an integrated video camera will facilitate video communication with friends or attending videoconferences.

4.Battery life. If you are the kind of people who travel a lot, a battery with a longer life, will allow the use of laptop for a extended period without worrying that you’re going to remain incapable to use the notebook. In general the battery life of ultraportable notebooks is way above the battery life for desktop replacement laptops. As a warranty that you will not remain in the inability to utilize the notebook is recommended to buy a second battery compatible with the selected model.

5. Choosing the laptop brand! Every customer has the tendency to favor certain companies over others for some reason or other. If we used a notebook before, it is more likely to prefer the same brand name if we had been happy with the one which we used. For example, someone who used an Apple before will be inclined to select an Apple as a replacement and will not study in detail the characteristics of the other labels unless he requests something that Apple can’t offer him. Definitely it’s much easier to decide on a brand when you’ve got earlier experience with notebooks, but if you wish to purchase a laptop for the first time, choosing from dozens of models available in the market might prove as difficult and I’d recommend to choose the brand that provides best performance at the cheapest price.

6. Laptop Warranty. As well as with other electronic products, unpleasant things can happen with laptops also. Ask the seller what is the average turnaround time for fixing the issues and also where is located the closest service. Once something goes wrong with a notebook, you generally have to send the entire object back to the manufacturer, for this reason you must make regular backups and keep the information on detachable storage devices drives.

7. Deal comparison. After you have taken a decision regarding which model you intend to get, my last suggestion is to check costs from multiple vendors to find the best deal. Amazon.com is one of the major and also most trusted internet based sellers and enables buyers to match rates with other sellers.

Taking Care Of Your Laptop

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

Many things can go wrong with your laptop of you do not take care of it properly. With a few tips you can take care of your laptop so that you do not have to be concerned with ruining something that could possibly contain all of your important documents and cost you a lot of money. When you go off to college, you buy a laptop and hope that it will last you the four years or more that you will be there. You will not have a lot of money and not being able to replace a laptop would not be a good thing considering that most colleges these days require the use of a laptop. If something does go wrong with your laptop, you have options. Services that offer Macbook repair and Macbook screen repair are available for you at a price that you can afford.

When you take your laptop into the place where you purchased it from, they will try to get you to buy a brand new one. If you take it to someone who knows how to fix it, it could save you a lot of money. There are problems though that cannot be easily fixed. A few tips on how to protect your laptop would be keeping it in a case. If you accidentally drop it or anything gets dropped on it, it will be a little more protected especially if it is a hard case.

You may think that you can only get screen protectors for your phone, but you can also get ones for your laptop. If you do not want to carry it around in a case all the time, you can at least cover it with the protective layer so that it will not scratch or dent. When you are not using your laptop, close the lid so that nothing damages it.

It is not always comfortable sitting at a desk writing a paper or taking notes on your computer while you are sitting at a stiff desk. Many college students prefer sitting on their bed while doing homework and their laptops sit on their bed sheets. When this happens, your computer can not ‘breathe.’ To let your laptop get the air that it needs so that it does not overheat, you can buy fans that sit under your laptop so that they do not get too hot and crash. They are very thin and run on the power of your laptop.

A few other tips that could be very helpful are keeping food and drinks away from it and installing software to protect it against viruses. Many people like to use their laptops and computers as sources to watch movies and such and like to eat while using them. If you spill anything on the laptops, it could ruin it. It is not like a computer where you can just unplug the keyboard. Since everything is attached, you could ruin the entire thing and all of your files will be lost.

Cheap Laptops: How Cheap Can Laptops Get?

Monday, March 19th, 2012

If you’re like me and have a keen interest in laptops and have been following this subject for over 10 years, one obvious question which comes to mind: How cheap can laptops go? Actually, pretty low. Some recent Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals have some good quality laptops selling for well under the $400 mark and if you really shop around you can find some priced even lower.

We are talking about quality products from such top brand laptop makers such as Dell, HP, Lenovo, Toshiba… all have lower priced models to satisfy those customers who don’t want to break the bank when buying a notebook computer. Usually, these laptops will be fully functional but will have smaller displays, less RAM and lower hard drive storage than a higher priced laptop.

Inexpensive laptops are becoming more common in the marketplace as the price of components become cheaper and competition heats up. Laptop buyers can now get more value for their spending dollars and this can only be seen as a good thing since they get more for less.

Of course, if you can settle for a smaller display size and less features, you can purchase some netbooks for under $200. But this is sort of a moot point, since netbooks are considered a different category than laptops. However, even with screen displays of 10 to 13 inches and fewer features, a netbook is a computer and can easily do most of the things you can do on a laptop.

And netbooks should not be confused with e-readers or slates such as the Apple iPad. In many cases, these e-readers are not a laptop or a computer in the traditional sense. Just take the iPad for example, you can surf the net, view photos and videos, you can even type on it but it has none of the functions you would expect on a laptop such a USB port, flash content, or even a regular keyboard. And you can’t really program an iPad in the traditional way you can program your computer or laptop.

However, what netbooks and e-readers have done is driven down the price of laptops since basically all these devices are competing in the same market. Although many would argue they have slightly different functions or meet different needs, there is enough similarity to make them inter-changeable in the eyes of many consumers. More competition and more products in the marketplace simply means lower prices.

When purchasing a laptop, a cheap price should NOT be your only concern. A cheap laptop which doesn’t to the things you want it to do, will be useless. So don’t sacrifice quality for a cheaper price, it simply is not worth the trouble. However, as mentioned before, there are many inexpensive laptops which will get the job done.

Which leads us back to our main question… how low can laptop prices go? While a $100 laptop is not out of the question, most experts would probably say that $300 – $500 would be the median price for a good quality cheap laptop in the future. Of course, that’s not taking into account those special deals around Black Friday and Cyber Monday, then all bets are off!
