Not only is the internet a venue for sending information to and fro but it too has become a venue for hackers and people with malicious intent to infiltrate security systems. This is why people search regularly for the best internet security software. Most people use the internet and their computers as their passage way to the outside world. Users do not only use the internet to gather information but they also this to purchase products, share photos or files with other people, check their account’s balance and other stuff.

Due to the various kinds of information being sent through the internet, other people started breaking down the security systems of other people to procure sensitive data that these hackers might find useful. It’s not very unusual now for some people to have their computers hacked and some of them even had their personal bank accounts hacked into as well. The internet has become a breeding ground for hackers and people with malicious intent.

This is why computer engineers and security specialists have come up with hundreds of software programs with the purpose of guarding other users’ computers from hackers. Each year a security software program is released into the market but with so many programs out there how can anyone tell if the one they have is the best internet security software?

If you’re looking for the best internet security software program you should first know what kind of programs you regularly use and which websites you frequently go to. There are many types of security software on the net and the market which means that there is a program suitable for each user.

Parents who want to protect their kids from malicious websites can avail their selves of the best internet security software for them. The kinds of security software suitable for parents are the ones that have parental control. These kinds of security software programs prevent kids or unauthorized users from accessing inappropriate sites. Parents can choose which websites they want blocked or they could specify in the program what kind of websites should be blocked. If you have a child that you want to protect from inappropriate websites then this security software program is most suitable one for you.

For those users who regularly browse the net and have no time to manually upgrade their security software then automatic updating of security systems is the best internet security software for them. The internet and the market are filled with security software programs that can upgrade your security software every hour so that you won’t have to constantly monitor your computer’s status. This is perfect for users who can’t find the time to manually upgrade their security system.

For videogame enthusiasts getting interrupted while playing their favorite videogame can be such a hassle which is why anti-virus and computer security specialists have designed the best internet security software for gamers. This kind of security software lets the gamer choose which notification they want to pop up in their screen. Also, this kind of security software will notify the gamer of a security upgrade but it will not interrupt his or her game. This is a perfect program for hardcore gamers who do not want to be disturbed in the middle of a game.

Security software specialists also designed the best internet security software for users with a minimal budget. These software programs are available to users at a cheap price and some of them are given out for free. People can simply download them on the internet. Of course, there are certain limitations to the free software’s capability but still they are able to protect computers against unwanted hacking. There are several software programs out there that can protect your computer against any kind of threat so if you are looking for the best internet security software you will definitely find one that is suitable for you.

Of the top ten security threats for 2011, some of them would make even the well informed and technical minded weak in the knees Already this year, the number one threat has been identified

Of the top ten security threats for 2011, some of them would make even the well informed and technical minded weak in the knees. Already this year, the number one threat has been identified. For the first time in the history of the Internet, hackers can buy a registered copy of a sophisticated “Malware kit” for $99.00, but more on this threat below. In no particular order, these are the other nine top security threats for 2011:

The Malware Toolkit: This Malware Kit includes all the needed tools to create and update malware as well as take control of a host computer, in addition to e-mail support and product updates. Why is this such as threat? Because no coding skills are needed; users simply need to master the clickable program options and they are presented with a Linux-based web exploit using the latest Botnet technology, ready to deploy.

Interested hackers can purchase the entire package for $99.00, or even less. Some of the lower priced Malware and Botnet kits cost about $40 or $50 dollars and the higher end packages cost upwards of $4000. These come with full technical support, customer service, and even installation and configuration services as well as cloud support. With the number of Internet connected devices on track to hit 6 billion by 2015, the malicious hackers that buy these toolkits will act like the next wave in disease evolution.

Cyber Criminal Communications: The dark vision of a malware toolkit means that more and more cyber-criminals will be communing with one another, working together and doing so dynamically and anonymously over social networks.

Smartphones: The spread of smartphone devices is viral, the more smartphones that are made, the more the market demands the devices be made. The next big thing in cyber-crime will happen on smartphones, like the virus that was crafted for the iPhone or someone making a virus to take over a corporate network, using employee smartphones to do it.

Distributed Denial Of Service (DDOS) attacks: Advanced technology will allow attackers to kill a server or website without the brute force tactics of the past. Smaller Botnets (like from a $50 kit) using this advanced technology will use pinpoint attacks against certain applications or services alowing them to kill the target quietly, users might not even realize the sites been attacked.

Social Networking: One of the world’s most well-known cyber-criminals, Kevin Mitnik, worked mostly on the phone with secretaries or sales people and termed his work “social hacking.” LinkedIn is a social networking site that is business by nature; imagine the damage wrought by ambitious high school kids networking information out of unsuspecting “potential employees.” This brings us to…

Click-Jacking and Cross-site Scripting: These are a few of the latest in hijacking methods and like “Like-Jacking,” they are targeted to social networks like LinkedIn. With hackers working as teams, they could have someone on the inside, target a web hosting company, and gain access to all the customers’ websites, client data, and financial data.

Attacks on Mobile Devices and Wireless Networks: The future is mobile; billions of Wi-Fi network access points are just waiting for a well-crafted Botnet from the latest cyber criminal kit to come along and give an anonymous face in the crowd the ability to exploit thousands of mobile devices in a train station.

Phishing attacks from “trusted” third parties: Let us imagine that you and most of your colleagues use an offsite support contractor. The contractor’s support system is cracked and a Phishing attack goes out without their knowledge. The bank you work for is now under the control of a cyber-criminal. You had no way to know that the support ticket response was loaded, and neither did the bank’s support staff.

Data Exfiltration: This is the process of stealing data; rather than use brute force attacks to blow the wall of the data warehouse, the attacker uses more sophisticated means, such as logging on as a company employee to the company’s internal network and exploiting the opening. Security would see only the employee checking email and opening a document, but moments later, the company’s banking data is gone.

Hardware level cell phone attacks: There are more “old-fashioned” cell phones than smartphones in use and new exploits have been developed that attack the phone itself, rather than the OS or user level. Have you ever received a text message that “upgraded” your phone? Do you know where it came from? Millions of phones could be compromised, which allows them to be used in many really disturbing ways-all without the owner’s knowledge.

What if a company server has an account with a cloud computing service online? Taking that into consideration, what would happen to the company’s infrastructure if an inside employee is working with an outside group to take control of the cloud? What would happen to your job or your personal bank account? That data would be exposed and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

An overall large part of the many cyber threats above all contain one similarity; the insider. The insider is an increasingly dangerous weakness. Larger-scale and more sophisticated company networking infrastructures and less secure employee access makes it easy for cyber-criminals to find and recruit insiders to wreak havoc in one of the above ten ways.

There are things to consider when looking for the right antivirus software It is difficult to pinpoint just a few factors, because the needs of computer users differ

There are things to consider when looking for the right antivirus software. It is difficult to pinpoint just a few factors, because the needs of computer users differ. For instance, the antivirus software that gamers need may be a little different from the antivirus software that entrepreneurs; teenaged computer users may also have different preferences in antivirus software compared to middle-aged users. However, we can narrow it down to six simple things.

But before listing these six things, we must know why having the best antivirus software is essential for any computer user. Antivirus software protects our computer from harmful threats, and these include viruses, spyware and adware. Now that the world is wired and almost everyone has access to the internet, it is easier to get viruses and malware. It is also not uncommon to hear about identity theft through phishing sites. So you see, there are a lot of potentially harmful things that could happen if you do not have antivirus software. With this in mind, you can see how important it is to know about the factors that you should consider when purchasing antivirus software.

What makes the best antivirus software? The first thing is compatibility. A computer must be compatible with any software. If your operating system is Windows 7, your antivirus software must be specifically for Windows 7. This is the same with other operating systems, such as Windows XP, Mac OS, or Linux. You can also read about minimum requirements when you are choosing antivirus software. Make sure to check this first before you download your software. The second thing to consider is usability. Usability is also known as user-friendliness. The best software must have a smooth, clean interface that is easy to use. Messages and prompts must be direct and simple as well, to make them more understandable to users.

The third factor to consider is range of protection. Antivirus programs must be able to offer the complete protection for your computer. It must not just be able to detect and remove viruses, but it also must be able to recognize any new threats, such as Trojans and worms. This is especially true now that many kinds of cyber attacks are being developed. Hacking and phishing are very common nowadays. You need the antivirus software that can fight new forms of malware and prevent identity theft. And with this kind of protection comes features, which is the fourth factor to remember when choosing the best antivirus software. You need software that provides great features and options, such as a rescue disk, availability of battery saving mode for laptops, and scheduled updates.

The last two things are affordability and customer support. Any product must be affordable, that is a general rule. But affordable does not necessarily cheap. It may mean that you are getting your money’s worth by purchasing a great quality product. To stay true to that sense, the best antivirus software must be priced reasonably, depending on its name, features, and reputation. And lastly, do not forget the importance of great customer support. A product and a company would not get very far without a team of excellent technical support staff who answers queries via phone or email.

Anyone can spot which antivirus software is a cut above the rest. Remember the six factors mentioned above, and by careful evaluation you can find the best antivirus software for your computer.

Viruses have existed before the advent of Windows operating systems It only takes a few lines of code along with some creativity to make a software program that is self-replicating

Viruses have existed before the advent of Windows operating systems. It only takes a few lines of code along with some creativity to make a software program that is self-replicating. Some of the more sophisticated viruses reside on the computer’s boot sector making them more difficult to remove. As technology advanced, virus coders thought of more ideas on how to penetrate desktop security and even some third-party security software. You will need to equip your computer with the best antivirus software if you wish to keep these malicious threats at bay. It will take a few basic tricks that you must apply before you can find the best antivirus solutions.

Sticking with the Free Software

Many of the top companies that deliver quality antivirus still ask for a license fee and a subscription fee just to keep the updates rolling. While these programs are often piled with some useful features from in-depth scanning to firewalls and anti-spam filters, free software are quickly catching up in terms of basic and essential features. What matters most is that the system is protected from malware in real-time right after the free program is installed. This is exactly what the goals of the best free antivirus software programs, like Microsoft Security Essentials and AVG are.

Observing the User Interface

The web is full of critics that enjoy reviewing antivirus software because they want to help users make the decision as to what virus scanner to get. There are tons of antivirus programs available that promise total desktop security so these reviews can greatly help you make the choice. But users may have different opinions than the critics so it is best to judge each program yourself by looking at the screenshots. If you see that the interface is friendly for you, try the program out and see if it is easy to operate.

Experimenting with the Resource Usage

There are some desktop computers and netbooks that have low system specs so even running the best antivirus programs out there may cause more harm to the system because they take up too many system resources causing the system to bog down. It is better to go with the best free antivirus solutions in this case because they are lighter due to the stripped down features. Microsoft Security Essentials has its own advantage for deeply integrating itself with Windows. You can check how much memory the antivirus program is using by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Esc and then clicking the “Processes” tab and then look for the filename of the virus scanner and see how much RAM it consumes.

Security Performance Testing

When testing the performance of any desktop security program, you must make sure that the scanner is efficient in getting rid of viruses. You can test it if you have any spare USB flash drives that may have past infections. Although some people may be turned off with the programs that carry out operations slowly, long scans should be considered good because they often use bigger databases and search for every file.

Security Tips to Protect Your PC: Spyware Removers

Spyware has become a tremendous problem for many computer users. In fact, spyware removers, also known as spyware blockers, are now essential for keeping computers free of this software that is not only annoying, but malicious. Many computer users believe the only protection they need is a antivirus software program, but even though spyware is a form of malware… it’s not a virus so no matter how good an antivirus program is, it will not prevent spyware from being installed on your home PC.

Sometimes called a browser hijacker, spyware is any software program that can harm your computer. Spyware installs itself on your computer via certain website downloads and also by being hidden within websites that you visit. Unlike viruses, spyware does not normally try to damage your computer or the files you have stored on it. Instead, it spies on your on-line activities and finds out the types of programs you have on your PC.

Spyware removers are your most effective defense again spyware. Your system can slow and eventually slow down and, perhaps, crash because of resource-hogging spyware, but removing it can make your computer run like new again.

Spyware is often lumped in with viruses, but spyware and PC viruses are quite different types of software. Spyware tries to steal your private information, while computer viruses aim to corrupt your files simply because the programmers who write them are able to. It’s like a game with them. Viruses aren’t intended to spy on you, but they do replicate and spread themselves to other PC’s on your network through email or applications shared by the computers.

Spyware blockers are applications that prevent spyware from installing itself on your computer, while spyware removal tools remove existing spyware. Both play an important role and should be included in your desktop security software.

Spyware frequently causes sluggish computer performance because it can bloat your system. An effective spyware removal tool will cleanse your computer and remove all the spyware, which will restore your computer to its previous level of performance.

However, the most effective defense for spyware is not letting the spyware to get onto your PC to begin with – that way you don’t have to keep removing it. Use a firewall to protect your desktop; it will act as a spyware blocker – that is, if you don’t voluntarily download a hidden application. To gain additional security, you should also download and use a good anti-spyware program. In addition, using a a spyware remover application on a regular basis will ensure your computer is not infected by any spyware that might have slipped through your other defenses.

People who are downloading a program often do not read the end user license agreement or a description of what’s included in the download because they’re in a hurry. If this describes you, you might be downloading a program that’s been bundled with other software that includes tracking cookies, a form of spyware. Your PC will become very sluggish if it becomes burdened by several spyware applications.

Typically, computer users are stunned the first time they scan their PC with a spyware removal application. They’re simply amazed to see how many spyware applications are hiding on their PCs. You need to find a good firewall and a good spyware remover application if you want to protect yourself against companies knowing your browsing habits.

You also need to keep your PC system software is always up to date and current. If you don’t install the patches and technical updates, you’re leaving the door of your PC vulnerable to spyware attacks. Windows offers a setting that allows you to update your PC automatically. Turning on this function is well worth it, because it will keep your system software current.

Summary of Security Tips Regarding Spyware Removers

Although you might not realize it, many companies are extremely interested in your Internet browsing habits. It’s therefore essential that you protect yourself and your computer by using spyware blockers. You should also make a habit of scanning your PC with a spyware remover application – incorporate a spyware blocker scan as part of your ongoing PC maintenance. By using a spyware blocker and spyware removers, you’ll always be protected against spyware, so your privacy will, well, remain private. You’ll also be preventing your computer from performing sluggishly due to system bloat caused by a spyware infestation.

Protecting information is important, but the demands on your data are increasing almost exponentially. It used to be only your employees needed access to information, but now contractors want access to perform their role, customers want access to complete transactions and check on order progress, and there are numerous business applications which rely on external, third party processors who may also need access, for instance your bank or merchant account provider.

Protecting desktops and laptops is now probably more of an issue than securing the network perimeter. Indeed, some security consultants and experts are going so far as to say perimeter security is now a dead issue. Network perimeters are now highly porous, or at least they need to be – the days of a single gateway being created, upon which a large chunk of the company’s security resources were concentrated is now obsolete.

It is not only desktops and laptops which need to be secured. Smartphones abound, providing email and data access to the company network and data store and mobile devices such as iPads and tablets are increasingly being adopted by business users. All of them represent endpoints which need to be secured. Not only must the network ensure that the device is authorized to access the company network, but that the user of the device is an authorized person – it is a simple thing to lose a cell phone or have a laptop stolen.

The original network model of a hard perimeter and highly protected gateway has given way to a network where there are multiple endpoint devices connecting to company data over wire, wireless, on-site and remote locations. The security implications are not just who you should let in through the gateway, but authentication of the device which is connecting to the network, how it is connecting and probably more importantly, who is in control of the device which is connecting, especially when remote or mobile devices are being used.

At the same time as maintaining a solid security foundation, data access demands are increasing not just in terms of volume but also speed and flexibility. This is pressure is being created by the business and operational needs of modern companies and markets. Deals are now conducted faster and on the road, instead of the luxury of a company office; laptops and other mobile devices allow for the office, and all of its resources, to become mobile which means they are increasingly untethered from the main location based network.

Security vendors have taken a general approach to endpoint security by assessing the security status of the endpoint in question. Access is granted (or denied) based on the security classification and status which is accorded. One major issue is the implementation of endpoint security solutions where there is already an existing SSL VPN network infrastructure in place to handle remote and mobile locations. In such circumstances, it takes an experienced security partner who can call not only on the resources of the security solution provider, but also those of the network infrastructure providers too, in order to develop a tailored, integrated solution which is effective.

Malware (short for malicious software) is the term used to describe any program designed to do harm. Though the definition of harm may depend on individual perspective, most users agree that viruses, Trojans, and worms are all forms of malware. Some people even include spam in that category, claiming that junk mail causes harm. The two newest forms of malware to hit the Internet are adware and spyware.

What is Adware?

There are two different kinds of adware on the market today; one is fairly legitimate, the other fairly malicious. The first kind, the more legitimate one, is advertiser-supported software. Though the user may get the useful utility software for free, it comes with advertisements to generate revenue to support further development. Usually this kind of software is available in an ad-free form for a modest cost. The system is very similar to television- network TV is available for free because it is subsidized by the revenue from commercials.

The second kind of adware is more malicious, monitoring your browsing habits and delivering targeted advertising. Many consider this kind of adware spyware if it is installed without your consent or knowledge.

The line between adware and spyware is a fine one, but many software vendors argue that if full disclosure is made in the fine print of the user agreement, legal consent for installation is granted by the user. Users (most of while rarely take the time to read the long and jargon-filled user agreements) tend to disagree.

What is Spyware?

Spyware refers to those insidious programs that track your browsing habits and even redirect your browser to selected websites. It is almost always installed without the knowledge or consent of the user, often hidden inside another program or as the payload of a virus or worm.

Hidden spyware is illegal in many countries, including in the US, where the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has indicted and convicted several purveyors of spyware.

Some programs require users to install spyware as a part of the installation process. Kazaa and BearShare (two file sharing utilities) are notorious for this practice. The user agreement for these two programs does spell-out the fact that spyware is included, but there is no spyware-free version of these programs available. Users who want those utilities must agree to the installation of spyware, a legal practice that most users nonetheless consider unethical.

Once installed, the spyware gathers information about the web-browsing habits of the user. This information is analyzed, and the analysis used to deliver targeted advertising to the user. Spyware vendors argue that they gather demographic information rather than specific personal information (like names, addresses, etc) so they are engaged in legitimate market analysis rather than privacy violation.

Advertisers claim that targeted ads are the best way to reach potential clients who might actually be interested in purchasing their products. Some go so far as to claim it falls under the protection of the Constitution because it is a form of free speech.

Despite this argument by the vendors, most users consider spyware annoying and intrusive. Users counter that the free speech of the advertisers should not infringe their right to privacy, and has no place on the browsers and in the inboxes of the uninterested.

Though new forms of adware and spyware are constantly being released, there are legislative efforts afoot to counter this menace. In the meantime, use a browser that blocks pop-ups and a spyware-checker that detects and deletes spyware to keep your private computing private.

Computer experts ingeniously solved the common problems on the use of floppy disks and the CD-ROMs by creating the thumb drive. It has many uses and has become so important that it is now one of the fast-selling products in the world.

Almost every student and professional has it because this is where they store valuable data, documents, research work and backup files. For its entertainment purposes, movies, music, videos and photos can be stored in thumb drives and then viewed to any computer or appliance with a USB port. Small, light, and very portable, it is very convenient for those who travel a lot and those who work outside the four office walls.

And since this device is important, one should know how to keep it safe and secure. Thumb drives can easily be stolen due to its small size and aside from long hands, the owner should also be wary of his own hands because they can easily misplaced the device also because of its smallness. For those who are not that conscious of their possessions, one should choose a bigger type because thumb drives now come in various shapes and sizes. Also choose those whose with bright colors so even if its misplaced in a clutter, it can easily catch the eyes attention. Some thumb drives even has lights or are luminous, bright or glittery not only so that it can catch the eyes of the envious but also the eyes of its unorganized owner. Another trick is keeping the device on a lanyard, hanging on the neck or the bag. Avoid buying the types that have detachable covers, for these small parts can also be easily misplaced. Retractable ones or that have strings attached on the caps are better.

Also keep thumb drives safe from nature’s elements and like sun, and rain. These are not water-proof and should also not be exposed to extreme temperatures like heat. These devices are also not 100% shock proof so be careful not to sit on it, accidentally fall it on the ground or squeeze it into tight places because it also has limits withstanding extreme force or pressure. Also keep it clean and free from dust, especially of small particles that can get inside its plug.

To secure data in your drive, a simple method is to make sure that before it is unplugged from the computer’s USB port, the hardware is safely removed. Also check the quality of the device because there are fake thumb drives boasting of a 8GB memory but when used only has 2GB of space thus overwriting other saved data. One can also encrypt the data to keep it confidential. An open source program called Truecrypt is available. Many do not really need to secure it through encryption especially if what’s stored is not professional data. Many use thumb drives just for music and photo storage and casual documents.

Thumb drives don’t come in that cheap, especially those with bigger memory. So its important to keep it safe. These devices can also fail after many cycles of writing and removing data. Taking good care of it can prolong its usage and effectiveness.

Hello to all of those reading this article For this article, I decided to write about the top 4 reasons one should use Anti-Virus software

Hello to all of those reading this article! For this article, I decided to write about the top 4 reasons one should use Anti-Virus software. Anti-Virus software is fairly common, and a lot of people use it. However, there are also millions of users who insist that they do not need any type of anti-virus software. Perhaps they think that viruses aren’t enough of a threat to make downloading anti-virus software an important part of owning a company. Other people might have the false impression that their computer can be protected without anti-virus software. These people are wrong though. To prove this, here is my list of the top 4 reasons you should use Anti-Virus Software.

1. Viruses Are Everywhere!

This is so true. Viruses are everywhere. Millions of e-mails are being sent per day with viruses included with them. Virus removals is by far one of the most common services requested at PC repair shops. The sheer number of viruses makes it likely that you will get hit with a virus sooner or later, even if you make it a habit of staying safe on the internet.

2. Virus Severity!

When people think of computer viruses, they think of them slowing down your computer or making the computers unable to load. However, viruses can do much worse. Viruses can delete all of your data. Viruses can e-mail all of your friends and infect them as well from your computer. Viruses can even obtain your credit card numbers and send them to hackers resulting in charges of thousands of dollars. Viruses can literally ruin your life. This is why it is so important to get anti-virus protection.

3. Ease Of Infection

Another reason to download anti-virus software is that it is fairly easy for a virus to infect your system. Viruses can some in many different ways. For instance, you can even be infected by a virus just by going to a website. There are many security holes in Windows which can lead to a virus infection. While you can update windows and install patches for these critical security holes, you may not get to these patches right away. Windows security patches are released fairly often, and even waiting a few hours to install one could be enough time for your computer to be infected by a virus.

4. It’s Easy!

It is fairly easy to install anti-virus software. In addition, there are many anti-virus software programs that are absolutely free to use. You don’t even have to pay for future updates. These anti-virus software programs are used by millions of users every day and prevent a countless amount of infections.

I hope you enjoyed this article. Most importantly though, I hope I convinced you to download anti-virus software. It takes only a few minutes to download anti-virus software, and it can later prevent you from losing all of your data and having to spend hundreds of dollars to fix you computers. Good luck, and stay safe on the internet!

Author Bio: Greg has been using computers for close to 15 years. Over the years he has advised hundreds of people on various computer issues and how they can be fixed. On his blog Greg’s Reviews, he reviews various programs such as registry cleaners, and gives his views on the best software to use.

(The internet is vast and wonderful and you can do lots of things with it But are you sure your security is not being compromised

(The internet is vast and wonderful and you can do lots of things with it. But are you sure your security is not being compromised?)

There was a time before and a time after the internet. Now there is so much you can do just by sitting with a computer and an internet connection. You can do your work, you can do accounts, you can do your homework, you can chat with friends, you can send emails and be in touch with everybody, you can listen to music, you watch movies, you can voice and video chat with anybody in the world, you can do your shopping, do netbanking, pay bills – you can do almost anything.

The risk factors

Beware – while you can do all these and more, you are also more vulnerable to your computer being hacked, your identity hijacked, your data lost, your credit card and personal information compromised. Children and teens are at the mercy of predators as well.

You can lose money thanks to various internet scams, thanks to phishing and Trojans, your shopping and spending and internet usage can be tracked, all without your even being aware of it. Unscrupulous people can manage to transfer money from your bank accounts, do shopping with your credit cards, even morph your face and put you on porn sites.

With the internet, the rise of cyber criminals has made governments sit up and take notice. Most countries have special crime cells which deal with cyber criminals. It does not stop there. Even terrorist and criminals use the internet for their nefarious purposes.

How to make sure you are safe?

You should try and use genuine software as far as possible. A lot of software has built in safeguards. When you select your internet service provider make sure he uses secure lines – even for wi-fi connections – and encryption. Put a firewall in place and use spam guard to filter out unwanted email.

Use a total security internet suite and set all the controls as high as possible. Apart from the real time scanning, make sure you do deep scans manually every week in the very least. While there is no one anti-virus or internet security suite which can protect you fully, and you cannot use more than one on a computer without computer problems, what you can do is run and online scan every week with another package. This is usually free. Often you can disinfect your computer as well, otherwise print out the report and disinfect or delete infected files manually, after backing up your system.

Malware, anti rootkits and registry cleaners

Most anti-virus programs come with their own Malware, spyware and adware cleaners, but you usually have to start a scan or schedule it separately. Set your browser settings to clear cookies on exiting and also clear history files.

Often you can download them from the internet. However, be careful of scam registry cleaners which show you unwanted viruses and want you to spend money to buy them. Look for testimonials from genuine users on various boards before spending money on registry cleaners.

When you download

Be very careful when you download stuff from the internet. Free programs like torrent and similar file sharing programs often put your computer at risk of getting attacked. It is very tempting to download music, movies and television shows, and that also free, but do keep in mind that you may be risking your computer security.

Remember to keep backups of all your data on DVDs or pen drives or an external hard disk. And keep all your software programs safe as well. Because if your computer is facing lots of problems and runs slow, and your anti-virus can find no solution, then you can only format your disk drive/s to speed up your computer and remove all infections.
