Refilling Ink Cartridges Made Easy

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

Purchasing an ink-refilling kit is the best way if you want to refill your ink cartridge. Almost all online stores selling ink cartridges also sell ink-refilling kits. These kits also come with the necessary tools and instructions that you would need to help you on how to fill empty ink cartridges. If you want to avoid the hassle of going to the store to have your ink cartridge refilled and would rather do refilling ink cartridges yourself, here are some simple guidelines to follow to refill your ink cartridge:

1. Using the syringe included in the ink-refilling kit, draw the ink out. Make sure you do this on a sink or in the bathroom to avoid any spillage. Keep in mind that the amount of ink depends on the brand of the ink cartridge. For example, Epson printers can have as much as 17ml of black ink and 8ml of coloured ink. To be sure, always check the instructions on the amount of ink that can be transferred to the ink cartridge.

2. To transfer the ink, bore a small hole on the cartridge top. For each chamber, use a ball point pen to make little holes for each chamber. To inject the ink, make sure to insert the needle in the hole nearest to the label on the cartridge’s surface. Avoid bubbles when injecting the ink by injecting the ink slowly. Bubbles and foam inside the cartridge will cause the ink cartridge to malfunction and failure to print. In the event of failure to print due to the presence of bubbles or foam, hold the cartridge upside down over a trash bin and swing upwards swiftly. This will make the cartridge release the bubbles inside. However, if this still doesn’t work, so the head of the cartridge in water or de-clog the ink heads to clean. This way, the ink cartridge can eject the ink easily.

3. You don’t need to worry about sealing the holes bored at the refill because of the presence of breather holes at the top of the cartridge.

4. If ever there is still ink left in the syringe, it can still be stored for later use. Just put back in the ink bottle. Make sure the syringe is thoroughly cleaned after use. It is better to have separate syringes for black and other colours.

5. To check if the ink cartridge is refilled correctly, have the printer run three times as soon as the cartridge is back into the printer. Be on the lookout for gaps during printing. If there are gaps, just continue running the printer until the gaps eventually disappear.

Remember to hold the ink cartridge upside down first before inserting it back into the printer to make sure that there are no leaks. Also, keep in mind the following guidelines before filling up an ink cartridge again:

Do not wait for the cartridge to go empty before you refill it again to prevent the cartridge from getting dry. If you follow these guidelines, you will find that refilling ink cartridges is easy. However, if you still feel that you cannot do it by yourself, there are lots of servicemen in ink-refilling stores that can help you out with this.

Samsung Toner Cartridges – How to Save Money in Your Next Purchase?

Friday, April 13th, 2012

Samsung toner cartridges have set a new standard in printing technologies that offers the finest precision in terms of quality. Despite intense competition from new brands that have emerged over the years, Samsung has been able to establish a strong brand that makes it a preferred option amongst consumers. Samsung is the go-to brand for those looking for an efficient home or office printing solution.

Before going out to buy a toner cartridge, the buyer must understand the difference between toner cartridges versus ink or laser cartridges. Toner cartridges use electrically charged powder that is made up of pigments and plastic components that are melted and then printed onto the paper without any leaking whatsoever. The fact that the pigment does not bleed on paper make it a better choice than other types of cartridges.

The best part about Samsung cartridges is the fact that each are designed to suit a given model in terms of design and function. The basic categories of Samsung toner cartridges are divided into two: OEM and compatible cartridges. Each type is different on a variety of factors, something of which a buyer must take the time to learn to ensure that s/he has made an economical and smart decision.

OEM cartridges, or Original Equipment Manufacturer, is (as the name implies) a type of cartridge that is of the same brand as the original printer wherein the cartridge is to be used for. On the other hand, compatible cartridges are made by a third-party company that utilizes compatible parts as the original printer that guarantees it will function smoothly. Many industry experts believe that the compatible cartridges have reproduced the printing results of the OEM version and are therefore a good value. But which is the better option of the two?

Buying OEM Samsung toner cartridges guarantee high precision printing that is based on the same technologies used on the printer. This is why manufacturers recommend that you buy the same branded cartridge for the printer to preserve the quality of the prints. However, this comes at a huge cost. Prices for OEM cartridges start from as low as $75 to as high as $300.

There are several noticeable differences between compatible Samsung toner cartridges with the OEM type, aside from the fact that the former is manufactured by a third-party company. The cost is the most obvious benefit for buying this type of cartridge since consumers can get them at an affordable price.

Aside from the low cost of compatible cartridges, they have also been able to recreate the same technologies that guarantee high quality results. Third-party manufacturers have taken to great strides to avoid breaching any patent without sacrificing the ability to offer superior quality prints.

One must take into account two factors when determining which type of Samsung toner cartridges to buy – cost and quality. Hence, compatible cartridges have an edge over OEM cartridges as it combines high quality printing technology at an affordable price tag. Your own budget will determine your choice. However, compatible cartridges are a more practical choice in the long run.

Purchasing a Printer to Suit Your Needs

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

So you have a swanky desktop with a plasma monitor, your children have Sony Vaios and you have a netbook for your travels. Now all you need is a user friendly printer.

Think about what you want to use your printer for. School work may require essays and articles, possibly the odd colour printed geography diagram of tectonic plates. On the other hand a business working from home will mean heavy usage, particularly on the black ink. Then there is the arty and the sentimental who will use more colour for printing photographs for their old school albums and scrapbooks.

In choosing a printer you will naturally want to get the most for your money. It is important to remember that even though you may need to spend a lot on a printer, if it meets your needs effectively you will find it more economical in the long run.

The first choice is laser-jet or ink-jet? Laser jet printers are more expensive in the outset but in the long run more economical if you are a business printing reams of text. Not only will it work out cheaper, the printing will be of impressive quality. If you have colour charts interspersed then consider a colour laser printer. These are more accessible than they once were and will deliver good looking professional quality documents.

Ink-jet printers may appeal to the family home. They are good at printing photos and although you will not get the same finish on text as you would with a laser-jet, it is likely to be a quality suitable for your everyday needs. They do not hold the same volume of paper and they come with fewer settings but they are arguably more versatile. Ink-jets are not to be scoffed at, they are getting more and more advanced and now many come with networking functions and varied settings. In addition there are a huge range of papers available for your different projects.

Ink-jets come at a range of prices but overall they tend to be cheaper than laser-jets. Try not to be fooled by the offers too much and price up the ink before you purchase, some come with the option of using cheaper cartridge counterparts. Shop around too and keep an eye on the newcomers to the market.

If you simply want to print photos think about a portable photo printer. These are relatively inexpensive and have limited functions but they do serve the purpose of printing photo sized pictures with as little effort as possible. They can be particularly useful if you are not savvy with larger models. Many will print directly from your SD card and allow you to make small modifications to the image.

Shop around before you commit to a make and model. The internet can offer reviews and offers which can guide you through the process of finding the printer that’s right for your needs. Price may reflect quality. but realistically speaking, if your printer is more recreational than a business necessity then go for an all round good value printer rather than a top of the range high speed commercial one.

Ink-jets, Laser Jets, Dot Matrix… What’s the Difference?

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

As much as these sound like parts of a sci-fi movie they are in fact all very real and reliable models of printer. But how are they different?

There are two main categories of printer, impact and non-impact. They do exactly what they suggest. Impact printers consist of those which use pins which hit an ink ribbon and create an image by striking the paper. An example would be a dot matrix. Non-impact printers will create the image without touching the paper; these include ink-jets and laser-jets. So specifically, which printer does what? Well, over time, these printers have tended to find different audiences.

Laser jets are particularly popular with commercial entities. They are capable of dealing with high volumes of printing due to a large memory, large paper tray and networking facilities as well as offering a range of functions. They utilise toners instead of liquid ink. The finished, products are also professional and neat and they rarely smudge easily. They are however quite expensive, although over recent years they have become more accessible to a wider audience. Overall they are economical for those needing to do lots of printing on a daily basis.

Ink-jets work by heating ink to form a vapour bubble which is then transferred to the paper. They are relatively cheap in comparison to laser jets and yet offer speed with high quality. They come with disposable heads and all require ink to be replaced fairly occasionally depending on usage. The disadvantage of them is that they are less durable and will probably buckle if required to print constantly in a business environment. They are less economical if used in this way too. However, they are great for home use when you may need your printer for a variation of business like and creative tasks.

Multifunction printers are fairly popular at the moment. These are good if you have a home office and require the use of a scanner, copier and fax. They take up less space and work out cheaper than buying the separate components. Remember that the unit will need to be fixed or replaced if just one component fails though.

Photo printers are a relatively new addition to the market. These utilise very fine droplets to offer an improved photo quality. They seem to be the ‘must have’ accompaniment to a digital camera. In fact many will let you print directly from your camera or memory card and may even come with a preview screen. They are fine tuned to offering great photo quality, sometimes incorporating a wider range of ink colours for this reason. Portable printers are very handy for travelling or for accompanying a net book. There are many different portable printers available on the market and they can be expensive but they are economical with space.

Dot-matrix and thermal printers use slightly different techniques and have gone out of fashion for home and office use. They are used now mostly for printing carbon copies and cash point statements.
